Reiss AW15 Styling Masterclass
Throughout September, Regent Street Fashion and Design Month has celebrated all things beautiful and stylish with a series of exclusive events, expert talks and masterclasses taking place along the iconic high street. Among these, a personal styling masterclass at one of my favourite retailers.
Reiss is a fashion label I wish I had paid more attention to when developing my own personal style, albeit one I likely couldn't have afforded before this year. While not quite falling beneath the "designer" umbrella, the quality of Reiss' pieces is still reflected in their prices. Give me another year and a pay rise, and I might be able to take home their beautiful menswear on a more frequent basis. Until then, a splurge on a statement coat or polka dot shirt is an occasional treat.
The styling masterclass was held in the bright and airy personal shopping suite, hidden in plain sight above the Regent Street store, where senior shopping expert Rachel talked through the latest pieces in the AW15 collection and how to wear them, which included my favourite seasonal staples - roll-neck jumpers and wool overcoats. Their most pronounced colour this season is Bordeaux, which can be seen across the breadth of both mens- and womenswear collections.
Although September - and consequently Regent Street Fashion and Design Month - has reached its end, Reiss are offering personal styling appointments with 10% discount and a Clarins goody bag to all discerning shoppers until this Sunday. Fyodor Golan SS16
When the press team for Fyodor Golan sent out a fashion show invitation depicting an epic space battle between warring robots, it was impossible not to be at least the tiniest bit excited, even if such a concept seemed almost at odds with elegant womenswear. Following from last season's multicoloured collaboration with My Little Pony, the theme for SS16 takes inspiration from another of Hasbro's iconic toy lines - Transformers.
I shall admit that, in my boyish naivety, I may have thought the models would resemble a feminised contingent of Autobots and Decepticons (much like I thought the models for the previous season would be dressed in hoof boots, wings and rainbow hair), especially when the BFC had moved their show space to a multi-storey car park. Suffice it to say my childish fantasy was obliterated the moment the first look walked the runway, printed with roses instead of robotics.
That isn't to say there is no apparent influence. Metallics are prominent throughout the collection, as well as the bright colours of the original Transformers toy lines. And geisha-inspired shoes and silhouettes suggest a nod towards Transformers' Japanese origins. Seeking inspiration from a brand of toys aimed almost solely at a male consumer would have been a challenge, but Fyodor Podgorny and Golan Frydman have achieved balance with the femininity of their designs.
