Uptown Boy

I would like to think I am a modest man, but just this once, I am going to say exactly what is going through my head when I look back at my photographs... Damn, I look dashing in a two-piece. You may be surprised to hear this is my first ever business suit. Although the only business I intend to get up to in this navy ensemble is drinking wine and partying the night away - in a civilised fashion, of course.

Remarkably, my new suit is not from my usual pick of the high street retailers, but rather the menswear department at Tesco Clothing. Having shot plenty of street style featuring supermarket brands, I am aware that labels such as F&F offer a plenitude of trendy and affordable fashions, but I had never thought to shop there for myself. This slim-fit suit, however, fits me perfectly, and retails at an economical £60 for both trousers and jacket, not that you would think it.

Having styled the suit with a white shirt and a velvet bow tie, I find myself at a midway point between two British icons, James Bond and Doctor Who. Given that I have a replica sonic screwdriver in my bedroom, I am likely leaning towards the latter, but I would hope I display the same air of sophistication as 007. If only a sharp suit could also guarantee his same magic with beautiful women.

If you hadn't guessed from the name, 'Frenchologie' specialises in all things French. The company has recently launched a pop-up in Seven Dials, Covent Garden, where fashions, homeware, artwork and delicatessen from exclusively French brands and designers are arranged among contemporary décor. If you can spare fifteen minutes after work, swing by 38 Earlham Street and have a browse.

Girls Who Read

You may remember I was involved in the production of a Roundhouse-funded short film called 'Girls Who Read', directed by a former BAMMJ student, Guy Larsen. The film was released last Friday, and it has been an overwhelming success. In less than a week, 'Girls Who Read' made the front pages of Reddit and BuzzFeed, and it had received more than 2,000,000 views on YouTube. Suffice it to say, I am immensely proud to have been part of such an amazing project.

'Girls Who Read' is based on the namesake poem by Mark Grist, who stars as the narrator. The film truly brings his poem to life in a beautiful way, and I cannot offer more praise to Guy Larsen, producer Mike Histon, editor Martyn Graham, the wonderful actress Amy Burrows, and the many talented individuals who made the film happen. Debenhams AW13 menswear challenge

I love autumn. I love the rich hues in the trees, especially on sunny mornings. And though the air may be sharp with the tell-tale signs of winter's approach, I love the excuse to pull on a pair of boots and wrap myself up in a stripy scarf.

Whitmoor Common in nearby Worplesdon, Surrey, is rather spectacular at this time of the year. The woodland has transformed to orange and brown, and the open marshland is a picture-perfect landscape. But I cannot take credit for these photographs. These shots are the eye and handiwork of Guildford based fashion photographer Saskia Lawson, who I previously interviewed in 2012. I do not often have the privilege of a guest photographer, and Saskia was a delight to collaborate with for this style feature.

The challenge set by Debenhams was to style three key pieces from their AW13 designer collections. I decided on an autumnal colour palette of blue and brown, for which I chose Ben Sherman teal trousers, Loake tan boots, and a John Rocha stripy scarf. These were teamed with a staple white shirt to accentuate the colours. The look was completed with a brown belt and two of my favourite accessories - a Daniel Wellington wristwatch and my new Osiris glasses from Specsavers.

Qulit AW13 accessories

Uh oh, it's those deadly Qulit spikes again. But I learnt my mistake the previous time, and I kept my fingers a reasonable distance from the sharp embellishment, focusing instead on the current range of accessories this original fashion label has to offer.

Moving away from the rich and exotic leathers, Qulit has designed a selection of bags and snapbacks in faux leather, which retain the aesthetic of the former python skin products, but at far more affordable figures. The bags are somewhat unusual, doubling as miniature backbacks and handbags. You may have spotted fellow blogger Toni Tran sporting one of these designs at Graduate Fashion Week earlier this year.

Graduation

Yes, I am finally a graduate. And I find it exceptionally appropriate to be celebrating my graduation on the same weekend as my blog's third birthday, officially marking this new chapter in my working life. I am a completely different person to the eighteen year old boy who began this blog, having gained - with encouragement - a confidence and love for life I did not previously possess.

Graduation was a long-awaited affair, since I finished my university course back in July. The ceremony itself was lengthy, with hundreds upon hundreds of Media School students collecting their Diplomas, Masters, and Bachelor of Arts degrees. Receiving my second class honours took all of about ten seconds, but I was excited to reach this finale in my education and focus on making my way in the world.

Though what I felt following my graduation was not the jubilation I had expected. Rather I felt lost, wondering where I ought to be heading. I guess that is what comes of realising I am now officially a grown-up. This weekend has given me plenty of time to ponder, and I have decided on a few resolutions, including tackling my insecurities, opening up to the people I trust, and aiming higher in my job search.

Without university pinning me down, I would like to hope my fourth year of blogging will be even better than the previous. Although it will take a lot to beat a weekend in Miami, a secret Professor Green gig, shooting street style for Mr Porter and the Daily Express, and partying atop the Gherkin, among other fantastic opportunities. (Perks of being a fashion blogger, eh?) Thank you all for your continual support. Here is to a new start.

Push PR Press Day: #HelloPetal

Push PR's floral-themed press day was the prettiest I have seen this season. Aptly named "#HelloPetal", the showroom in Clerkenwell had been lavishly decorated with wondrous bouquets by famed florist Nikki Tibbles, while guests were served colourful Bloom Gin cocktails garnished with rose buds, as well as creamy cupcakes adorned with carnations. Push PR certainly did push the boat out with this season's theme, and I look forward to seeing what their next press day has in store.
