Ziad Ghanem A/W 13

I love when a fashion show is as much a performance as it is a catwalk. Brighton Frocks at last year's Brighton Fashion Week was a prime example of this, and it has since been my favourite show to date. But the autumn/winter showcase from Ziad Ghanem is a definite contender for my top catwalk, after its theatrical and colourful display at Fashion Scout irrefutably captivated the audience.

Frozen in time, my photographs can only tell so much, so do watch the catwalk video on YouTube when you have the chance. Featuring burlesque, theatrics, and a diversity of models, Ziad Ghanem twists his flamboyant couture into performance art.

Catherine is a blogger at 'Survival Survival'. The coat - arguably the statement piece of her outfit - is by M&S Autograph, as are her shoes. General preconceptions of Marks and Spencer suggest their clothing is for older women, but Catherine's outfit challenges this.

The reason for Gina's presence at Somerset House was not in fact London Fashion Week, but rather the Valentino Exhibition in the Embankment Galleries. Learning that LFW was taking place concurrently was, she described, "a bonus". Gina wears Russell & Bromley shoes, "a very old" Jaeger coat and bag, M&S gloves, and a scarf from House of Fraser.

Sophie-Anna Brough is a model, actress and fashion designer. I photographed her last season, when she was modelling for Lulu Liu, but for London Fashion Week A/W 13, she is representing her own label, 'SAH Collection'. She wears Pepe Jeans sunglasses, Louis Vuitton bag, Oasis boots, Aerie scarf, and her jacket and skirt are of her own design.

Valentine's Day Blues

I would say I feel indifferent about Valentine's Day. I have no quarrel with couples who mark today with gestures of affection, because historically, February 14th has been celebrated as a day of love for hundreds of years. However, the immense pressure that commercialism puts on couples is by and large completely unnecessary. As is the whining of 13-year-old girls on Twitter, who fear they will be #foreveralone, because Harry Styles has not come to their door with a bouquet of roses.

But while I remain a single man, I do not dread the idea of spending Valentine's Day alone. (Or with my four cats - but that's pretty much the same thing, right?) Adding to the fact I am a very independent individual, it has been so long since my previous girlfriend and I broke up, that my single status is not something I generally dwell on.

That said, I did go speed dating last night.

Fear not, this was not a hypocritical and desperate attempt to acquire a Valentine's Day date, but rather a more unusual outreach event for fashion bloggers. Armed with a £40 gift card to spend at Next, my task was to arrange an outfit suitable for the evening, for which I chose a white Oxford shirt and a pastel blue jumper from the Oxford Street store. The rest was simply a spot of fun.

For a first-timer, the idea of speed dating was terrifying - especially having discovered that I was being snuck into an event for people aged 23-35. (I hadn't planned on chatting up older women just yet.) But thankfully, this was not two years ago, when my timid self would have sat in awkward silence throughout the night.

Apart from one fairly drunk woman hating on me for being a journalist, the evening was a rather pleasant experience, in which I proved to myself that I am capable of conversation and humour with complete strangers. I am pretty sure I did not meet the love of my life behind one of the tables, but these speed dating events are only ever for introductions. How much can you really know from four minutes of chit-chat?

Personally, I find love to be a curious thing. It takes somebody extremely special for me to fall in love, but the underlying question will always be whether the feelings are mutual. Four minutes in a dimly-lit bar will never be enough to be even remotely sure of your true emotions, however a couple of months can be vastly enlightening.

Sneak peek: Ruby and the Rib Cage

Following her interview in the most recent edition of Pebble Zine, Ruby of the namesake 'Ruby and the Rib Cage' kindly asked we could arrange a photo shoot together. Braving a chilly afternoon in Shoreditch, we came away with some lovely shots from Wilkes Street and St Leonard's church, a taster of which is below.

The photo shoot was also a chance to take the Canon 5D MkII for a pre-LFW adventure. While my Sony α 290 has proven itself capable, the Canon 5D is arguably superior in quality and efficiency. Sadly, the camera is only on loan, but if I had a couple of thousand pounds to spare, I would have my own in an instant.

My new Adidas NEO gear didn't arrive in time for my Miami weekend, but I am still as excited to introduce a fresh measure of streetwear to my wardrobe - directly contrasting with my tendency for smarter attire. My favourite items are a pair of suede sneakers in a striking red & white colourway. When I was a young boy, I thought red trainers looked horrendous. It's funny how opinions can change with time.

Nicola and Alan Portsmouth donned their best vintage-esque attire for the Boscombe Vintage Market last Saturday. Personal assistant Nicola wears a Darling cape and French Connection scarf. Architect Alan wears a vintage scarf, trilby hat from Debenhams, and waistcoat, jacket and shirt from a gentlemen's outfitters in Bridport. His impressive moustache is maintained with Captain Fawcett's moustache wax.

A luxurious London hotel suite was the setting for Stefan Orschel-Read's presentation at London Collections: Men. Suits in bright colours dominate his A/W 13 collection, with extra colourful details in the lapels and side panels. As a lover of smart attire and bright colours, Orschel-Read was my favourite fashion label at London Collections, and one I would definitely invest in were I not a lowly student.

Few visitors to Bournemouth know of the borough's thriving vintage scene in the suburbs of Boscombe and Pokesdown. As such, the Boscombe Vintage Market is an event not to be missed. Held on the first Saturday of each month in Boscombe's Royal Arcade, the market sees a collective of traders selling thrift, antiques, vintage fashions, jewellery and handmade crafts. Here is a flavour of what you are missing...
