Today, I'm wearing...

An early start and a late finish. I'm in London all day today, shooting street style at the Vogue Festival for Student Journals, followed by The Shoreditch Fashion Show (ÖffBeat Live) in the late evening. That is, if the city doesn't wear me out.

As much as I love London, there is something quite exhausting about it. I have never been to the capital and not come back feeling shattered. Perhaps I have yet to adapt to city life. Because I will be moving there in the foreseeable future, this tiresome spell shouldn't last too long, I hope. Has anybody else felt the same?

Liberty AW13 Press Day

There was so much colour and so many patterns at the Liberty AW13 press day, you'd have thought the store was mistakenly showcasing for spring/summer. However, given the wacky weather the country experienced last month, perhaps these fashion designers had foreseen the warp in the seasons.

With a plentitude of prints, the key trend for autumn/winter appears to be all things busy. Wear something wild, wear something zany, wear anything which doesn't have the word "plain" in the title. That includes your accessories too.

Sneak peek: Doctor Who?

I am very excited. I maxed out a £50 gift card today at Topman, having picked out a very swanky suit from the sale rail. I finally have all the pieces for a very special outfit post, one which I have been longing to publish since I first saw a TARDIS in the Bournemouth University Media School. Is there a Doctor in the house?

Drama student Hadleigh (left) and poet Ralph (right) are two of the more animate
individuals I have photographed. People who know how to have fun in front of the
camera will always brighten my day.
Hadleigh wears Converse hi-tops, Topman jeans,
Primark jacket, Marks and Spencer shirt, homemade bow tie, watch by Cuff Watches,
and goggles via eBay. Ralph wears trousers and bag from a charity shop, shirt and
blazerfrom Asda, tie from Marks and Spencer, and his shoes were a present.

Madame Allsorts AW13

Tongue-in-cheek is the best phrase to describe Madame Allsorts' autumn/winter couture. Tazz and I were naturally intrigued to see a dress with hot dog print - until we examined the garment closer. The designer's approach is risqué, though I suppose fashion design is always pushing the boundaries of what is acceptable. That said, I may find it questionable if a girl were to turn up to our date wearing vagina apples.

Milan style, Bath

Street Style - Ben, Bath
Ben studies Fashion Photography at Falmouth University. I absolutely love the suave and colourful style he's rocking for Bath in Fashion, which I believe is very reminiscent of men's street style in Milan. He wears Jones shoes, H&M trousers and blazer, Tommy Hilfiger belt, Ted Baker holdall, Next shirt and tie, and Austin Reed pocket square.

Bath in Fashion

'Bath in Fashion' is the City of Bath's equivalent to London Fashion Week, with late-night shopping, fashion films, vintage fairs, catwalk shows and special guests. The showcase for S/S 13 was held at the Assembly Rooms (also home to Bath's Fashion Museum), featuring the latest fashions from high street brands and independent boutiques - including Jamie Laing's 'Candy Kittens', which has a pop-up shop in Milsom Place.

Bath itself is such a beautiful city, I am not surprised it is a World Heritage Site. While I was only there for six hours, the architecture and cobbled alleyways were a pleasure to explore in the sunshine. I must thank Megan (The Briar Rose Blog) for her suggestions of shops to visit. I came to discover in the 'Tea House Emporium' the sweet-smelling delight that is strawberries-and-cream flavoured tea.

Jewel & studding detail: Tube Gallery AW13

While we should appreciate a garment for its overall aesthetic, it is the finer details which make it unique. The bright jewels and studding of these Tube Gallery dresses captured my attention from across the Blow PR showroom. In my opinion, specific features such as this put a stronger stamp on fashion than a designer's name or logo.

Matthew Campbell Laurenza jewellery AW13

I love exploring jewellery at press days. I wouldn't describe myself as a magpie, because it is far more than the shiny surfaces that spark my intrigue. It is the intricacy in the artistic detail, the beautiful colours of the jewels and enamel, and the inspiration behind each collection which make jewellery so exciting.

MCL's autumn/winter collection did just that at the POP PR press day. The collection appears to take inspiration from Ancient Egyptian culture, which it infuses into its ornate and jewel-encrusted designs. Each style is striking, exotic and glamorous, reflecting the wealth of the Ancient Egyptian elite.

RXTR

The Blow PR team generously included an RXTR t-shirt in their press day goodie bags. Size medium, the top was far too big for my slender frame, but Maddy was all too eager to take it off my hands. Apparently, an oversized t-shirt and knee-high socks are the perfect outfit for lounging about the house and writing a 10,000-word dissertation - that is, when we are not prancing around and shooting photos.

Superdry AW13 Press Day

I cannot say I had ever held Superdry fashion on a high pedestal. While their infusion of "Japanese graphics and vintage Americana" has gained huge popularity around the world, the clothes felt overpriced, the overall style was too casual for my taste, and the brand's name was screaming at me unnecessarily from every product.

But the A/W 13 showroom in London revealed that Superdry is embracing a smarter and less ostentatious trend, including woollen peacoats, herringbone jackets, cable knitwear and denim shirts. The new collection retains the brand's urban roots, but with a classical approach. According to the company, the upcoming season is its "most forward-thinking, premium collection yet".

Eight press days and a polaroid picture

Press days are opportunities for the media to see the collections they didn't see at Fashion Week, or those which didn't feature. Myself and Tazz, Pebble Zine's fashion editor, spent a whole day in London yesterday, where we attended a total of eight press days, including Superdry, Liberty, and Trace Publicity.

AW13 Press Days

I don't know whether it is a curse or a blessing that virtually all the press events fell on the very same date, nevertheless it was exciting to see both the trends and unique differences between the designers and fashion labels showcasing throughout the capital. Regrettably, this did involve a lot of walking, too many stairs, plus back-and-forth journeys on the Piccadilly Line, but at least we could recuperate at each event with feasts of canapes and cupcakes. Dinner was off the cards that night.
