A fashion show can be so much more than a catwalk - a point beautifully demonstrated at Brighton Fashion Week's 'ShowReel'. Brighton designer Sarina Poppy presented some of her bespoke and vintage-inspired dresses with swing music and dancing girls, turning her showcase into a 1920s performance. Given the popularity of 'The Great Gatsby' movie in cinemas worldwide, this elegant fashion will inevitably be in high demand.

Brighton Fashion Week ~ Aneta Mackonyte

The last showcase from Brighton Frocks to feature: Aneta Mackonyte's "RainboWarrior" collection, inspired by surrealism and occultism. A quirky mish-mash of colours, prints and embroidery. (Learn more at www.behance.net/anetamackonyte)

Brighton Fashion Week ~ Dumpster Couture

Dumpster Couture designs unique and bespoke outfits, created from - as the label suggests - material that would have soon become rubbish, such as cardboard packaging, magazines, leaflets and shredded paper. Brighton Fashion Week ~ Charles of London

Charles of London is an independent rock'n'roll fashion label - its collection incorporating retro pop culture and British punk rock vibes. Models wore an array of colourful prints, including the Union Flag and neon leopard print, plus eye-shadow not dissimilar to that

Brighton Fashion Week ~ Jylle Navarro

The showcase from alternative knitwear designer Jylle Navarro turned men into monsters, as they staggered and crept along the runway in experimental outfits of colourful yarn. The creepy performance on the catwalk reflected the collection's inspiration from such horror imagery as Frankenstein's monster and Swamp Thing.

Brighton Fashion Week ~ Oh My Honey!

Brighton Fashion Week ~ Jenivieve Berlin Millinery

Wear one of these hats to Ascot and you will receive more than a few bewildered stares. JB Millinery designs outrageously styled hats,  made with fluoro colours and geometric structures - "...controversial headwear for those that dare to be different." As the quote suggests, they will not be to everyone's taste, but these colourful hats take confidence. Artistic and creative, they symbolise a keenness to explore fashion, a virtue I believe to be paramount to any designer. (Learn more at: www.jbmillinery.com)

Walterworks recycles materials from household items and garments to create an artistic collection, embodying the designer's views on wastefulness in society. Brighton Fashion Week ~ Shara Hayz

For its electric and psychedelic performance on the runway, the showcase from digital fashion designer Shara Hayz was my absolute favourite at Brighton Frocks. Her fashions are loud and colourful, with a plethora of metallics and jewels to create a lavish and outer-worldly collection, inspired by 1950s science fiction and ancient civilisations. Brighton Fashion Week ~ Lucky Dame

I first saw this collection by Lucky Dame Couture at Alternative Fashion Week. The label explores latex rubber as material for garments, creating quirky yet provocative designs. My one query, however, is how one gets into the latex, since it looks extremely tight!

Brighton Fashion Week ~ Jenna El-komboz

Brighton Fashion Week ~ Frantic About Frances

This is the moment when Brighton Frocks pumped up the sexy. Imagine burlesque dancing, alluring models, enticing lingerie, flirty smiles - this was 'Frantic About Frances',
a lavish lingerie label inspired by vintage pin-up girls. Needless to say, the showcase was captivating. As a heterosexual man, I would certainly not deny a future girlfriend from wearing this brand. (Learn more at: www.franticaboutfrances.co.uk)

Brighton Fashion Week ~ Celia Arias

Charged with theatrical glamour, 'Brighton Frocks' is the first catwalk for Brighton Fashion Week, showcasing the very best in costume and alternative fashions. The vanguard collection for this year's show came from Celia Arias - freelance stylist, costume designer and visual artist. Her beautifully surreal designs left me amazed.
