Owl Jewellery

Owls are beautiful birds - so beautiful, it seems, high street retailers have emblematised these nocturnal creatures into their range of women's jewellery. In Accessorize alone, you'll find almost a dozen examples of owl-themed jewellery, but are these shiny symbols as striking as the birds themselves?

In Western culture, owls have long since been associated with wisdom, the idea originating from Ancient Greece, where the owl was a symbol of Athena, Goddess of Wisdom. Although in some cultures, owls are instead seen as bad omens. In the UK, they are recognised as majestic creatures and an important part of British wildlife, though I can imagine the last decade of Harry Potter films has given them extra appeal.
