On the scene, London Collections: Men

The calm yet intimate atmosphere of London Collections: Men is much more my cup of tea than the hustle and bustle of London Fashion Week. There is a sense of exclusivity, but there is less pretentiousness and greater opportunity to talk with people, particularly during the presentations and at The Hospital Club.

Another key difference is in regards to street style. Unlike the ostentation of LFW outfits, most people's dress sense at LC:M comes across as natural or effortless, as if that is the very kind of fashion they wear throughout the year. Nothing too zany, just enviable style.

On the final day, the camera turned on me. The photo above was taken by Silviu Doroftei, fashion student and photographer, and one of the many people I had the chance to network with that day. My outfit represents a favourite style of mine, combining my two loves for smart attire and vibrant colours. Equally, my new Dr Martens once again proved their worth when trekking to and from venues, providing more comfort than the pointy shoes I would have normally chosen. Etre Fivepoint gloves were the final practical touch, keeping my fingers warm on a wintry London day.

The i Paper party!

My BAMMJ coursemates and I were invited to The i Paper's 2nd birthday celebrations in London last night, and lo and behold, I am featured in today's paper! Pictured below is the photo of myself and Rosanna Cole, which you can also see on the i Paper Facebook page.

The party was a great opportunity to meet with writers and editors from The i Paper and The Independent, and it was extremely insightful to hear their wisdom for us as aspiring journalists. I may have got more from the event had I not been so merry from a glass of white wine (hence the huge smile in the above picture!), but I could not have asked for a better evening with my BAMMJ friends. Until the next event?

This is the second occasion I have been photographed for the i paper. (Although I much preferred my swishier hair on the previous occasion!) I was featured on page 37 of last Saturday's edition, having been spotted for my eye-catching sneakers. I am very chuffed to have been pictured in the newspaper twice now. On Tuesday, I have a chance to meet with the journalists behind the publication, at the newspaper's 2nd birthday celebration.
 

Modelling for Specsavers Magazine

26th June, I did a spot of modelling in Bristol for Specsavers Magazine. The photo shoot was for a 'street style' feature, which you now see in the latest edition of the publication. Prescription glasses can be as much a fashion accessory as sunglasses or footwear, and after the shoot, I was very tempted to buy new frames - maybe the design I was wearing?

For my first modelling experience, it felt - as is always the case - very peculiar to be in front of the camera. But with my portrait in a glossy magazine, I won't be complaining. Except perhaps for the error in my age. (22 years old is still a long time away for me!)

LFW press round-up

Apparently, my outfits ticked a few boxes at London Fashion Week. In particular, I am most pleased that my Unlimited by JK bag was of keen interest, which I am hoping will establish brand identity as much as generate more traffic to this blog.

It is very flattering having my photo taken, but I still prefer being behind the camera lens than in front of it. What annoys me most, however, are people who photograph me, then walk away without telling me where the image will be published. Below are photos I found while browsing website addresses provided by photographers courteous enough to give me a business card, and some who I had to chase after for URLs.

The following edition of the i newspaper was published Saturday 24th March, but since I read most of my news online, it was only through a friend a few days later did I find out I had been featured in the newspaper. Thankfully, the lovely people at The Independent were kind enough to send me a back copy.

Photographed again at Fashion Week

Another picture of me at London Fashion Week, this time taken on the Monday by street style photographer Karuna Gurung. Not only must I thank her for taking my photograph, but also for tipping me off about the presence of one Kanye West, who I then managed to snap later on as he left Mark Fast. On the second day of London Fashion Week, I was photographed by Dvora, the street style photographer behind 'Fashionistable', who was snapping menswear outfits for British GQ. And lo and behold, I found myself on the GQ website only a few days later!

At the time of the photo being taken, I was both chuffed for being photographed as well
as getting to meet Dvora, whose street style blog I absolutely love. A big thank you to her! As a result though, my vanity may have sky-rocketed just as much as my self-esteem.
