As New York Fashion Week continues, there has been more evidence that patterns and prints will be one of the big spring womenswear trends for 2012. And in the case of designers such as Custo Barcelona, for example, this has seeped into menswear too.
However, having studied the various collections, it would appear that the most popular styles of prints in New York are those of an abstract kind, either involving (a) fluid or Rorschach-like designs, or (b) lots of colours in a busy arrangement of different patterns. When these trends eventually develop into the high street designs, I fear they (the latter in particular) might be seen as an eyesore, but hopefully the monthly glossies will succeed in giving these trends some prominence in the long run.
