NoShow - AUCB Fashion Studies

Held at Pavilion Dance in Bournemouth, the end-of-year show from fashion students at the Arts University College Bournemouth was nothing short of impressive. The many collections - encompassing menswear, womenswear and childrenswear - displayed flair and individuality from each of the young and aspiring designers. For my first live experience of a catwalk show, I was not disappointed.

First of all, an immediately promising feature of the show was that - unlike the graduate collections I saw showcased at London Fashion Week - these collections were all perfectly acceptable to be worn in public. Before the show, I was worried this would not be the case, however was pleasantly surprised. Although the Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design is renowned for its excellence in fashion studies, the outfits I saw today from AUCB students were far better in my opinion.

In addition, I found it extremely enjoyable to flick through the students' design portfolios before and after the show, giving me an insight into the devlopment and ideas behind each of the collections. Just from taking a look at the pages of sketches, photos and sample materials, I was already eager to see the final products being modelled before my eyes.

Here are a few examples of the stylish outfits showcased...

Of course, being set in a dance theatre, the only downside was that it was not a true runway experience. However, regardless of venue, the show itself was a fantastic event, and I hope each and every one of those talanted designers succeed in chasing their dreams. If what I saw today is anything to go by, I'm sure they'll go far.
